The Agile heydays are behind us

In its earliest appearances in English, in the 16th century, heyday was used as a noun meaning "high spirits." This sense can be seen in Act III, scene 4 of Hamlet, when the Prince of Denmark tells his mother,

You cannot call it love; for at your age / The heyday in the blood is tame….

If Agile high spirits were in Act III, I would say that we are now in Act IV. The days of making big bucks and having job security, because you were an Agile coach or “thought leader”, a ScrumMaster, or RTE, are behind us. So many people that I’ve worked with and know now have that #OPENTONETWORK banner on their LinkedIn profile pic.

Agile is no longer in vogue. It’s just another way of working.

Even my group has renamed itself from Enterprise Agility to Enterprise Strategy and Planning.

It’s time for us to reinvent ourselves.
