I recently teamed up with an Atlassian partner to deliver a webinar to a few hundred people. The event was well received and was a solid introduction to Lean Portfolio Management (LPM). Since then, as I talk with others about LPM, they tend to describe it as this highly complex and highly advanced practice. But from past experience, I can tell you that it’s not. If you are aligned with executives within an organization, I see it no more complex than running a Scrum with a delivery team. Have clarity around a few roles and their responsibilities. Follow a few simple patterns. You have LPM.
I believe the major disconnect with LPM is the same with Agile or Scrum as delivery frameworks. The framework is not the destination. You’re not playing BINGO, where you’re trying to check off every box.
The framework is the enabler. We want leaner portfolio management. We want greater value delivery with less waste.
